(Reuters) - Databricks, the data analytics firm which has long been the subject of IPO speculation, is close to raising $8 billion via deals that would value it at $55 billion, according to a source familiar with the matter. Most of the new funding would be in the form of a secondary share sale, where early investors and employees are allowed to cash out some of their stock holdings, the source said. Such deals can boost employee morale, since stock-based payouts typically comprise a big chunk of the compensation at startups, while allowing the company to sidestep an initial public offering. Several high-flying startups are seeking to stay private for longer to avoid the regulatory burden and market volatility associated with being public. The flexibility via secondary sales also gives them more time to strengthen their finances. Major venture capital investors Thrive Capital and DST Global are participating in the fundraising by Databricks, two sources said. Databricks did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The potential fundraising was earlier reported by CNBC. The company had notched up a valuation of $43 billion after a $500 million funding round last year. In this process, a laser beam is used to induce charges, enabling precise printing. Laser printing caters to various applications, including variable data and wide-format printing. Compared to inkjet and LED printing, laser printing boasts advantages such as speed and precision. Laser printers are more expensive upfront but offer lower running costs due to their use of dry ink. Primarily used in offices, laser printers have gained popularity among enterprises due to their accuracy and efficiency. In January 2021 , Ninestar Co. Ltd., a leading laser printer and toner cartridge manufacturer, introduced its Elite Series, consisting of six laser printer models. Key growth factors include the emergence of compact laser printers, increasing demand for A4 and A3 laser multifunction printers from enterprises, and declining laser printer prices. However, the emergence of ink tank printers may hinder growth during the forecast period. Despite this, the demand for laser printing technology is expected to remain steady due to enterprise demand for laser multifunction printers. Analyst Review The printing market encompasses a wide range of printers designed for various applications, from A4 office printers to large-format packaging printers. Mobile printing technology enables users to print from their smartphones and tablets, making printing more convenient than ever. Color printing has become the norm, with inkjet and solvent ink printers leading the charge. The ecosystem of inks and software plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality prints. Two second-half goals from Aaron Collins and a first-half header from Klaidi Lolos secured a convincing win against the Terriers, who had outclassed the Whites in their last meeting back in September. Bolton take their place in the last 16 draw on Saturday lunchtime with a victory Evatt felt was well deserved, albeit he felt it could have been by a wider scoreline. “Probably the only critique I can give is that for all of our really good play, really slick play, we should have scored more goals,” he said. “We missed three or four really clinical chances and that would have given the score-line a fairer reflection of what the game looked like. “It was a proper game, they came here strong, determined and ready to play. And we have shown tonight that we are improving and that was a huge difference to the game here earlier the season. “The only frustration is that some of our brilliant play at times, we should be more clinical and ruthless. And us saying that on the back of scoring three against a team like that is something we should be happy about.” Wanderers face Wigan on Saturday looking for their first league win against the Latics in more than a decade. Evatt is also hoping for some retribution, having suffered two 4-0 defeats at the hands of Bolton’s near-neighbours in his time as manager. He said: “We spoke about the importance of momentum in football, and it can leave you in a heartbeat and it takes time to build and gain. We have started to do that again but we know Saturday is huge for everyone and we have said we want to right a few wrongs. “That tonight is partly along that way, with what happened here earlier in the season, we have shown we can compete with these teams. But Saturday is huge for everyone and we know what it means to the fans, we want to do our best to make everybody happy.” Evatt feels Wanderers can draw some confidence from their recent home record as they look for three points which would send them back into the top six. He added: “Our home record since the game here against Huddersfield, we have won seven and drawn twice at home, and that is something we want to build on. This is a very good place for us to play football, it suits the way we want to play, and we want to make our home fans happy. I think we’re doing that at home. “The league campaign is where we are going to be judged, fundamentally, and we are improving in the league. We are gaining on the ones around us, and I can’t emphasise enough that we know what this fixture means and we’ll be giving it everything to get a result.”

Also affected are 21 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for their alleged repeated failure to account for previous budgetary allocations and internally generated revenue. These include the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba; Federal College of Education, Yola and Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe. The rest are the Federal Medical Centre, Bida; Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment; Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria and the Nigeria Police Force. The House took the resolution during an extraordinary sitting of its Public Accounts Committee on Thursday in Abuja. The chairman of the committee, Bamidele Salam, told journalists the decision followed the persistent non-compliance of the MDAs with the committee’s invitations aimed at scrutinising their financial operations. He said the agencies failed to attend the scheduled hearings and did not provide the necessary documentation requested by the committee. Salam said: “The Financial Regulation empowers the National Assembly to exclude any ministry, department or agency (MDA) that fails to account for their previous appropriations. “As such, the listed MDAs should be excluded from the 2025 budget until they appear before this constitutional committee.” Opinions Balanced, fearless journalism driven by data comes at huge financial costs. Every AI Copyright Lawsuit in the US, VisualizedSchool report cards released this month by the state provide only a “snapshot” of academic performance, Muskogee School Superintendent Jarod Mendenhall said. The Oklahoma State Department of Education uses the A-F public school report cards to provide information on different aspects of school performance, according to a department media release. Schools receive letter grades on overall performance, academic achievement, improvement from previous year, chronic absenteeism and English language proficiency progress. In Muskogee Public Schools, Sadler Arts Academy received an A overall grade and the 8th and 9th Grade Academy received a C overall grade. The other schools — Muskogee High, 6th and 7th Grade Academy and Cherokee, Creek, Irving, Pershing and Tony Goetz elementaries — received D overall grades. Mendenhall and other superintendents say the report cards do not provide a full picture of school performance. “These scores provide only a single snapshot of how a particular school is performing,” he said. “Our schools are providing much more for our students such as culture, climate, activities, etc.” Mendenhall said Muskogee uses some of the state data, along with internal assessments, to guide instruction. “We provide our students with pre-, mid-, and post-year assessments where teachers can review how our students are doing throughout the school year,” he said. “Our teachers do a fantastic job of utilizing this data, but the state scores are from last spring making it difficult to use.” He said this year’s report cards were modified this year, making it hard to use the data. “Since the system is based on a bell curve, the majority of schools throughout the state of Oklahoma must score average — C grade — for the system to work,” he said. “This is why it’s difficult to utilize this particular measurement year after year.” Mendenhall said the district does pay attention to state components indicating growth in different areas. He said the state needs to put more emphasis on measuring growth over time. “We did not see the improvement we were hoping for,” he said. “However, we saw improvement at many school sites which is encouraging. Our focus is meeting our students where they are every school year and then helping them meet the standards. I am pleased with our progress as a district and I look forward to seeing our district consistently improve year after year.” Muskogee Public Schools academic growth was within three points from state average, according to the state report card. Hilldale Schools got straight C overall grades, which is not much different from last year’s report, said Hilldale Superintendent Erik Puckett said. “We had a little growth in some academic areas at all three of our sites, and that’s encouraging,” he said. “We still work on it every day. We’ve got to get better. I think our teachers try to work hard in trying to teach the child, not just the academic part, but the social part.” Puckett said he doesn’t use the school report card to show how successful a school is. “But we do try to use the individual growth of individual students — how did one child improve from the third to the fourth grade, or from eighth to high school, “ he said. “We look at the growth we hope to see at different age levels and base instruction on the weak areas a child will have within those individual results.” He said people should not compare one school with another because demographics are different, “even within a city.” Each Fort Gibson school received a B overall grade. Superintendent Scott Farmer could not be reached. In 2023, Farmer said the district uses its own goals and measurements on academic performance. “There is no way in a large school system to boil down the performance to one letter grade,” he said in 2023. According to a Department of Education media release, the state report card compiles data for 700,000 students in Oklahoma public and public charter schools. The Oklahoma legislature established the report card system to measure school performance on different indicators.

FRANKFURT: German third-quarter growth was downgraded Friday with official data showing it expanded even more weakly than previously thought, in a new blow for Europe’s top economy as it battles multiple headwinds. The final reading of 0.1 percent growth confirmed the eurozone’s traditional growth engine had narrowly dodged a technical recession, following a contraction in the previous quarter. But it was down from a preliminary figure of 0.2 percent growth quarter-on-quarter, representing more bad news as the economy struggles with challenges from a slowdown in its crucial manufacturing sector to weak demand for key exports. The downgrade went against predictions from analysts surveyed by financial data firm FactSet, who had expected no change. “The data once again emphasizes the extent of the current crisis in Germany,” said LBBW bank analyst Jens-Oliver Niklasch. “Economic output in Germany is treading water — at best.” ING economist Carsten Brzeski warned that, while a summer recession had been avoided, a sharp downturn in the winter may be coming. The economy was hit in the third quarter by a 1.9-percent fall in exports compared to the previous quarter, as well as weaker investments in areas such as machinery, equipment and construction, according to statistics agency Destatis. Consumption, however, rose by 0.3 percent quarter-on-quarter, providing vital support, according to Destatis. The growth data laid bare how far Germany is lagging behind other major economies. Destatis noted that Germany’s economic growth was behind that of the European Union as a whole in the third quarter, with Spain, Italy and France all notching up better performances. And it was even further behind when compared to the United States, which has put in a robust performance in recent times, the agency noted. The German economy was hit hard after food and energy costs surged in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and amid post-pandemic supply chain woes. Germany was the only major advanced economy to shrink in 2023 and the government has previously said it expects another mild contraction in 2024, before a recovery begins the following year. But while inflation has eased from highs, a strong rebound has failed to materialize amid weak demand from key trading partners, particularly China. The crisis has been illustrated by a string of poor results from Germany’s corporate titans, from carmakers like Volkswagen — which is threatening to shut factories in Germany for the first time — to those in the chemicals and pharmaceutical sectors. Long-standing structural challenges have deepened Germany’s woes, including complex bureaucracy, under-investment in infrastructure, an ageing workforce and a costly green energy transition. Political uncertainty at home and abroad is adding to the challenges. Germany is headed for elections in February, seven months earlier than initially scheduled, after the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-party coalition earlier this month. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s US presidential election victory presents a headache for German businesses, as the United States is a major destination for “made in Germany” goods. Joachim Nagel, head of the German central bank, warned last week that if Trump pushes ahead with his pledge to impose tariffs on all imports, it could knock one percent off German output. ING’s Brzeski warned about the impact of Trump’s looming return as president. “Whether it’s the prospects of tariffs or US tax cuts and deregulation indirectly undermining German competitiveness, it’s hard to see how US economic policies will not be negative for the German economy,” he said. — AFPA police case was filed here on Tuesday after a video turned up on X showing a person making threats to spread terror during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, an officer said. ''On December 24, a video was shared on various handles on social media platform (X) in which a person was using objectionable words against Hindu religion. He was also using derogatory words against political personalities,'' police in a statement said. They said the man threatened to spread ''terror'' on January 14, 2025 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3, 2025 (Basant Panchami). In the wake of the appearance of the video, a case was registered at the Cyber Police Station of Pilibhit district, the statement said. Asked how many people were booked, a police spokesperson said, ''This is a part of the investigation,'' and refused to elaborate further. The development comes barely a day after three terror suspects allegedly involved in a grenade attack in Gurdaspur were killed in an encounter by a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Police in Pilibhit. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav termed the killings a breakthrough against the Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force module. The three men shot were identified as Gurvinder Singh, 25, Virender Singh alias Ravi, 23, and Jaspreet Singh alias Pratap Singh, 18, all residents of Punjab's Gurdaspur. The encounter took place in the Puranpur area of Pilibhit. Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said the Punjab natives were involved in the grenade attack. ''The three sustained serious injuries in the encounter and were immediately rushed to CHC Puranpur for treatment... but succumbed,'' he said. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Ian Schieffelin had 18 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in leading Clemson to a 75-67 win over Penn State on Tuesday and the championship of the Sunshine Slam Beach Division. Chase Hunter added 17 points, Chauncey Wiggins 14 and Del Jones 10 for the Tigers (6-1), who shot 44% and made 9 of 19 3-pointers led by Hunter's three. Ace Baldwin Jr. scored 20 points and had 11 assists, Yanic Konan Niederhauser added 14 points and Nick Kern Jr. 11 for the Nittany Lions (6-1), who shot 46% and were just 4 of 18 from the arc. Neither team had a double-digit lead in the game and it was tied with seven minutes to go. But Penn State had a six-minute drought without a field goal while committing three turnovers and the Tigers went up by six. A hook shot from Schieffelin with a minute to go made it a five-point lead and free throws sealed it from there. The eight-point final margin was the largest of the game. Konan Niederhauser's dunk to open the second half tied the game but a Hunter 3-pointer gave the lead back to Clemson. Penn State took its first lead of the second half on a 9-0 run, seven coming from Baldwin, to go up 57-54 with midway through the period. Penn State had its largest lead of seven in the first half but three consecutive 3s put Clemson ahead with three minutes to go and the Tigers led at 38-36 at halftime. Clemson had a 16-9 edge on points off turnovers. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Unai Emery knows Champions League top-eight spot is possible for Aston VillaThe federal government has accused a Chinese hacker — whose company is a Chinese intelligence-linked contractor — as part of an effort in April 2020 to exploit weaknesses in computer firewalls used by ‘U.S. critical infrastructure companies’. A grand jury indicted Guan Tianfeng, 30, of Sichuan Province, China, on Sept. 19 in the U.S. District Court in Hammond for conspiracy to commit computer fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The case was unsealed Tuesday. Online court records do not yet show an attorney. The U.S. State Department announced Tuesday it was offering up to a $10 million reward for information on Guan — a “security researcher”, his co-conspirators, or the company, Sichuan Silence Information Technology Co. Ltd. The U.S. Department of Treasury said it had imposed sanctions on him and the firm. Specific U.S. targets were not listed in the indictment. A press release from the U.S. Treasury notes “one victim was a U.S. energy company that was actively involved in drilling operations at the time of the compromise. If this compromise had not been detected, and the ransomware attack had not been thwarted, it could have caused oil rigs to malfunction potentially causing a significant loss in human life.” Multiple attempts to contact BP, which operates the Midwest’s largest oil refinery in Whiting, were not successful. A spokeswoman for Cleveland Cliffs said the company was not affected. Representatives from U.S. Steel and Ports of Indiana did not immediately respond for comment. U.S. Authorities allege Guan found a “zero-day exploit” in a firewall by U.K.-based Sophos Ltd. — or a “vulnerability” for a cyberattack. He helped send malware to 81,000 firewalls used by businesses worldwide, including 23,000 in the U.S. Three dozen were “protecting U.S. critical infrastructure companies’ systems,” the release stated. The goal was to steal data, including user names and passwords. Guan also tried to infect their systems with ransomware. Sophos found and patched it within two days. “The zero-day vulnerability Guan Tianfeng and his co-conspirators found and exploited affected firewalls owned by businesses across the United States, including in Indiana,” FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Herbert J. Stapleton said in a release. “If Sophos had not rapidly identified the vulnerability and deployed a comprehensive response, the damage could have been far more severe.” Guan may also have ties in Bangkok, Thailand, according to the FBI. mcolias@post-trib.com

Ross Barkley’s 85th-minute goal gave them victory in Germany after goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran early in each half were cancelled out by Lois Openda and Christoph Baumgartner. That sent them up to third in the new league phase of the competition ahead of Wednesday’s games and with matches against Monaco and Celtic to come, Villa have an excellent chance of finishing in the top eight. That would mean they would avoid a play-off round to make it through to the last 16 and Emery says that is the target. “Today was key. Juventus at home, we were thinking more to win but in the end we accepted the draw because it was important for a point to be more or less in the top 24,” he told Amazon Prime. “Today was a match we were thinking at the beginning was key to be a contender to be in the top eight with the last two matches to be played. “It is going to be difficult and we have to get some more points but we now have the possibility to achieve this option. “We are going to enjoy and try to get top eight but we have to be happy because we are in the top 24 and maybe even the top 16. “We weren’t contenders in the beginning to get there but now we have to accept it.” Leipzig, who are flying high near the top of the Bundesliga, are out after losing all six matches. They did pose a threat to Villa, who inflicted some of their own problems on themselves, notably a rare gaffe from goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for Openda’s equaliser. But Emery was happy with his side’s performance. “I try to enjoy and always we want to improve and sometimes it is hard but today the team were performing well, playing seriously and I was enjoying it,” he added. “We tried to overcome the mistakes we made and we did. More or less we were playing consistently. One mistake and they score but then we played very well. “Champions League is very difficult and we have to expect that every team playing at home are feeling strong. We played with consistency and domination.”
