A frog holding a taro-leaf umbrella. A parade of frolicking animals. An Ukiyo-e style Mount Fuji. Giant waves. A Japanese artist who goes by the name Lito carves these delicate designs on fallen leaves, giving life back to them. The world of Lito’s delicate art, which he began in 2020 and posts on social media almost daily, has won fans from around the world. The leaf art has also given him solace after earlier struggles with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and a purpose in life — the joy of making people happy with his art. He enjoys working at night. From a pile of leaves treated with a wrinkle-free chemical, he picks one and places it on a cutting board. First, he outlines the design on the leaf with a pen in his right hand. Then he takes a design knife in his left hand and starts cutting the leaf carefully. Slowly, the leaf begins to take the shape of a frog carrying an umbrella — a simple design he demonstrated in a recent interview with The Associated Press. More complex, highly intensive work on a single leaf can take more than eight hours to complete. His leaf-cutting works include titles such as “Scrolls of Frolicking Animals,” “Leaf Aquarium,” and “Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji: The Great Wave off Kanagawa.” Each piece includes his own twists, and often uses animals. “I would rather finish it in one go when I am focused,” Lito, 38, said. He didn't want to disclose his real name for personal reasons. Since his childhood, Lito says he has had high levels of concentration and patience. But he had trouble fitting into what was considered the norm at school or at work, despite all his efforts. He struggled to interpret others' feelings and to avoid confrontations. After years of difficulty, he went to a hospital at age 30 and was told he has ADHD, a diagnosis that he felt explained why he has always done things differently. He saw no point in forcing himself to do things the same way as other people, and began to adjust his life. In early 2020, Lito came across the art of leaf cutting. He saw it as the perfect use of his patience and concentration. Word of his skills has spread across social media, and he has published books on his leaf-cutting work. He holds a near monthly solo exhibition in various places in Japan. “If I can make people happy by doing what I am doing, I want to do more. That’s my driving force for what's next,” Lito says.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Broncos are 0-4 in Las Vegas, but in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions, Denver has more at stake than trying to end a series skid. A victory over the Raiders puts the Broncos that much closer to an unexpected playoff berth, playing with a rookie quarterback and just a year after they went 8-9. The Broncos are 6-5 and coming off a 38-6 victory over the Atlanta Falcons , and would be in the playoff field if the season ended entering Week 12. Not bad for a team given a win total of 5 1/2 games at BetMGM Sportsbook. “Everyone understands the significance of where we are at this point in the season,” Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton said. The situation is quite different for the Raiders. They are 2-8, on a six-game losing streak and decimated by injuries. Las Vegas could enter this game without its top two running backs and a reshuffled line on offense, and defensively, the Raiders could have two linemen, three cornerbacks and a safety out of action. “Just been having some bad breaks, but nobody feels sorry for us,” Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said. "Nobody feels sorry for me. You’ve got to roll out there with 11 players, and that’s what we’re going to do come Sunday.” The Raiders are badly in a need of a franchise quarterback and are in a logjam for the top pick in next year's NFL draft. Denver showed with this year's draft how valuable landing such a QB can be to an organization. Bo Nix was selected 12th — one spot ahead of the Raiders — and he is pushing for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. He was this week's top AFC player and rookie after completing 28 of 33 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns in the rout of the Falcons. “I think as we’ve gone on, Coach (Sean Payton) and I have found a good rhythm of what we both like, what we can kind of put out there on the field and what we can execute," Nix said. "Then the guys have kind of adapted to it, found our roles within the offense and executed at a high level. It’s just all about slowing the game down and processing things in a manner that you can handle.” Raiders tight end Brock Bowers also could have a say in who wins the season's top offensive rookie award. He is second in the NFL with 70 catches and his 706 yards receiving is 10th among all receivers. His numbers from a historical perspective are even more impressive. The ad for Apple’s AirPods Pro 2, entitled “Heartstrings,” features an iPhone app that, when paired with the AirPods, allows them to be used in the same manner as a set of hearing aids. The ad starts with a father watching his little girl open presents on Christmas and the heartwarming sight causes him to begin remembering the child growing up. But all the sound is a bit muffled. Soon, the man’s wife reminds him that he can use his AirPods and iPhone to better hear what is going on and the experience is enhanced for the father as his reverie about his daughter growing up intensifies and the sounds come in loud and clear. It ends with the loving father tearing up as he recalls his love for his daughter. WATCH: The ad quickly garnered a lot of discussion and praise online because it depicted a normal family acting in a normal way. Instead of being drowned in woke nonsense, we have a loving father who is not portrayed as a dunce or fool, a loving wife helping her husband without ridiculing him as she does it, a father then watching his daughter open Christmas presents while he remembers how much he loves her, and a flashback sequence showing the daughter growing up and doing normal, non-woke activities. This ad stands in stark contrast to the travesty luxury carmaker Jaguar recently disgorged on the world with a strange ad that delivered a cacophony of weirdos and transgenders in effeminate garb and which — oddly for a car company — didn’t even feature a car in it! Jaguar’s absurd ad was so badly flamed on social media that the CEO of the woke car company lashed out and accused the ad’s detractors of perpetrating a “blaze of intolerance” against the LGBTQ community. Apple’s ad got the opposite reception. In fact, the idea that famously woke Apple would put out an ad featuring a normal American family surprised social media users, many of whom expressed their amazement at how “pro-family” Apple’s ad was. WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — Penn State has won a closely watched trademark fight over an online retailer's use of its vintage sports logos and images. A Pennsylvania jury awarded Penn State $28,000 in damages on Wednesday over products made and sold by Vintage Brand and Sportswear Inc., two firms co-founded by former minor league baseball player Chad Hartvigson. Penn State accused them of selling “counterfeit” clothing and accessories without the university’s permission, while the defendants argued that the vintage images were in the public domain. At least a dozen other schools have sued the defendants on similar grounds, including Purdue, Stanford and UCLA, Penn State said in its 2021 lawsuit. However, the Penn State case was the first to go to trial and the outcome was being closely watched. “Our trademarks are a direct and critical representation of the Penn State brand, and we are gratified by the jury’s decision in our favor,” the school said in a statement Wednesday. “The university appreciates this result as it relates to the many hundreds of licensees with whom the university works and who go through the appropriate processes to use Penn State’s trademarks.” It was not immediately clear if the defendants planned to appeal. Email messages left with their lawyers on Thursday were not immediately returned. The verdict came after a six-day trial in federal court in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, overseen by Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann. Penn State, founded in 1855, adopted the Nittany Lion as its mascot in 1904 and has been using various images of the animal, along with the school's seal and other logos, for decades, the lawsuit said.
